Momming

Momming: It’s the plate spinning, cat by the tail feeling that comes with the job that really defines this word. Schedules are hard especially if you have multiple children doing activities. But it’s the October through January feeling of chaos that carries us from Halloween to Christmas that even successful people have trouble managing. I pride myself on being moderately successful on a good day you see.

But you can be a good mom and feel overwhelmed by this season, I promise. I myself am an overachiever, so I add in two additional children’s birthday parties during this time period. Why not? Like it’s hard or something. There is a fine line between success and lunacy and I walk it daily with three children in toe.

Being a mom is exhausting and being mom with self doubt is debilitating. When your own negative self talk starts to creep in, challenge it. Remind yourself to to be the person your kids think you are. Go ahead and ask them if you are unsure.

At work, I am the person with the plan. I’m organized and dedicated. I can adapt to any situation using very little resources. At home I am some of those things without a doubt but mostly I am the hot mess taxi driver who tries to be on time to multiple events. To my kids, I am the mom who tries to be present. The mom who struggles with work-life balance and sometimes comes up short. I am the mom that listens and tries to help even if I know I can’t do anything but listen. I am kind and strong. I like their version better…a lot better than my own negative self talk.

Remind yourself that you are what your children believe you to be and you will find grace and peace in the chaos of this hurried season. We all feel like we are not enough sometimes. But we are more than enough to the people who love us unconditionally.

We will all we miss the mark sometimes, but our loved ones are the first ones to give grace when It is desperately needed. And our children give us grace daily to be mom in times of stress and success. Our children have faith in our abilities even when we don’t have faith in ourselves. Believe them.
