Being a friend is hard...but accepting flaws and learning to deal with idiosyncrasies can be harder.

Acceptance is one of the core characteristics I value most. At times, I can be a mess. Accept that. Other times, I feel that I have it all together. Accept that. Occasionally, I am a raging bad word. Accept that. And LOVE me through all of it.

As I get older I realize the people that can provide this kind of acceptance is a very small circle in deed. Much smaller than I ever imagined.

I have learned to pull back from social situations that were just not right for me or my family. Man was it hard, but it was an important lesson for myself and my family. I am firm a believer in teaching through experience and modeling behaviors that you want to see in your children. If something is not right for you, move away from it. No hard feelings just give it space.

Throughout our life we will continue to have these experiences. Endings are hard, beginnings are scary, and we all have trust issues from past experiences. However, friendship is important. Belonging is vital. So find some people who can accept your flaws and idiosyncrasies and be with them....at least for the season.
